Lucid Lens
Prototype for AOI Lucid Lens project People don’t always read past the headlines – but headlines don’t tell the whole story. Here we introduce StraightLines, a proof-of-concept tool developed by AOI’s Lucid Lens team, that automatically rewrites news headlines to reflect the content of articles in a more accurate, less sensational way. Although people often share misleading and sensational content, people also desire accuracy. The Reddit forum “Saved You a Click'' has 1.9 million subscribers and is devoted to crowdsourcing accurate summaries of the content behind headlines. As the About section says: “Don't click on that, we already did. Fighting clickbait for better journalism.” At the AI Objectives Institute (AOI), under the project Lucid Lens, we developed an automated, scalable solution to the same rewriting headlines. Thanks to developments in AI, particularly large language models like GPT, we can now automatically read and summarize an article and generate a new headline that reflects its contents, plain and simple. The rewritten headlines are more informative and accurately reflect the contents of the article. Lucid Lens can help increase the quality of information consumed online. Without interrupting their natural browsing patterns, people will interact with cleaner headlines scrubbed of sensational or misleading information. This could reduce the sharing of misinformation. Further, assuming that rewritten headlines are less sensational, and less emotional, this tool could lower stress associated with “doom scrolling” the news. Early testing of Lucid Lens is compelling. Its rewritten headlines are more accurate and less sensational. We look forward to launching into research at a larger scale to quantify these effects. We can then investigate deeper questions such as: Does Lucid Lens reduce engagement with misinformation? Do users have a more accurate takeaway from the news? Do users find their time better spent? We have tested internally and we love how it’s made reading the news nicer, but different individuals have different interests and different needs. We really want to know what YOU think! Please join the experiment - we welcome all feedback!

Dafty
Unofficial improvements for Daft.ie Searching for a property to rent or buy is a time consuming effort usually over a long period of time. Daft.ie is a great website for doing this in Ireland, as it is the default site that every puts their property on. However, the search experience leaves something to be desired, which this extension improves. - Hide properties that you never want to see again. This can be useful if you have one or more searches that you look through regularly for changes, and you don't want to be distracted by properties you've already taken out of consideration. - Hide entire towns. Daft lets you opt in to search towns, but does not let you do a broad search.e.g of Dublin, but exclude some areas. With Dafty you can! - Take notes on the search page. Remind yourself of important facts regarding a property, e.g. that you've emailed the landlord, that you have an appointment etc. - Quickly read the property details. From the search page, read the property details without having to open a new page. - View photos. From the search page, look at the photos for the property without having to open a new page. - Auto-Paginate. By default Daft just shows you 20 results per page. Often this is not enough, and you find yourself paging through screen after screen. This extension instead auto-fetches up to ten pages and puts them all on the screen to be scrolled through immediately. This gives you up to 200 results per screen. If there are more than 200 results, you can still click the "Next" button to see them. Allied with the "Hide" feature, this enables you to quickly scan over a regular search for any interesting changes, hiding those you're not interested in and quickly spotting any new additions.
